Welcome to NASA Ames student information site. Ames is located in the heart of "Silicon Valley" near the town of Mountain View, which is approximately 35 miles south of San Francisco


NASA Ames specializes in scientific research, exploration, and applications aimed toward creating new technology for the nation.

Students of all ages will enjoy visiting the many educational Web sites that NASA Ames offers. Ames also offers many employment, internship, and research opportunities to high school, university, and graduate students. As a student employee at Ames, you will have the unparalleled opportunity to work side-by-side with a cadre of innovative and imaginative NASA professionals. Student Temporary Employment Program (STEP)
The purpose of the Student Temporary Employment Program (STEP) is to provide students with exposure to public service, enhance their educational experience and provide financial support to encourage their educational goals.
The STEP is an "earn as you learn" work experience opportunity. The program provides meaningful employment while students pursue their own educational goals.

Summer STEP
The Summer STEP, is a branch of the STEP program. This program provides students paid work experience opportunities starting in June through September. Summer positions are not available every year. Students must click on the link above for more information.

Student Career Experience Program (SCEP)
The purpose of the Student Career Experience Program (SCEP) is to provide students with exposure to public service, enhance their educational experience, and provide financial support to encourage and support their educational goals. The program also assists Ames Research Center to attract and recruit well-educated graduates into the workforce.
The SCEP is an "earn as you learn" work experience opportunity and students work in positions related to their academic/career goals. The SCEP is a formally structured program and requires a written agreement between the Center, school and student.
